Fall Fashion Favorites!

By Jan Butsch Schroder

We at travelgirl love fashion, and have learned to handle the additional challenge that traveling puts on our wardrobe by being selective with colors and fabrics. We all have our favorites that travel with us wherever we go – I never set foot on a plane without my soft black cardigan – but we allow for the addition of something new and trendy to our fashion favorites.

So we've scoured the newest fashion magazines and our favorite stores to learn of the latest trends for fall, which inspired our travelgirl 5 must-have pieces for fall!

In the article Autumn Fancy in our current issue, we covered what the fashion experts at H&M say. Just a few of the key items for fall include tunics, dresses, trench coats, T-shirts and of course, jeans. Then we checked in with a few of our other of our favorite retailers that offer affordable clothing. (More money left for travel, right?) At Target the new GO International collection includes structured vests, ruffle blouses and sweater coats. At J. Crew, they have fallen for florals for fall, with "Monet-esque watercolors, recast in moody tones." Their collection also features a lot of muted yellows and a rich teal, which is flattering to all skin tones. Other trends include long sweater vests and plaids.

All of our pieces have to travel well. We know that pencil skirts are hot, hot, hot for fall, but have you tried running to catch the metro in one of those? We need clothes that are ready for whatever life throws at us, wherever we are.

Okay, so this item may fall into the wish-we-had-it category, but we figure it’s worth saving up a bit for. Always in search of the perfect tote for work, travel and fun, we fell in love with this version from Coach and particularly liked that it comes with a strap and handles.

The ultimate transition piece, the trench coat is a must for every travelgirl. We loved this chic black one and you can always throw on a scarf for a little extra color.
