About Jan Schroder
Jan Schroder is an award-winning writer with more than 20 years of experience in publishing and editing. She works as the managing editor and web editor of Travelgirl magazine and is also the president of Schroder Publishing.
Jan has won six finalist Green Eyeshade Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Golden Flame Award from the International Association of Business Communicators. She has been published in Elle magazine, Creative Loafing, Atlanta Parent, Fulton County Daily Report, the Charlotte Observer, and Chicken Soup for the Expectant Mothers Soul. Her articles have also appeared online in Miami Herald.com, Ledger-Inquirer.com, divinecaroline.com, Boulder Weekly.com and uptownscoop.com. She writes a blog on Dining and Diversions in Atlanta that appears on her website at www.janschroder.com and on the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau at atlanta.net.
Jan wrote a column on restaurants in Atlanta for 10 years, which appeared in The Story newspapers and The Reporter newspapers. She was the editor of Atlanta Intown newspapers for several years, where she often worked with writers who had never been published before. She also encouraged people who thought they weren’t writers to give it a shot and found it very rewarding to help people through the process of getting their thoughts down in the best way possible for them.
Her corporate work includes articles, magazines and profiles for AGL Resources, King & Spalding, The Coca-Cola Company, Rock-Tenn, Consumer Credit Counseling Service and Colonial Properties Trust.
She is the author of three books, Just a Stage, Murphy's: 25 Years of Recipes and Memories, and Raising the Bar: Legendary Rainmakers Share Their Business Development Secrets, which she ghostwrote for a client of Schroder Public Relations.
A native of Atlanta, Jan graduated from Westminster, and has an B.A. in English from the University of Virginia. She is married to Chris Schroder and is the mother to two children, Catherine and Christopher Butsch. Catherine graduated from Duke University in 2010 and Christopher just completed his freshman year at Vanderbilt University.
She has no recollection at all what her college essay was about.
